Our Article of Faith

Our Article of Faith

This Article of Faith serves as a shared rule of faith for our church. It defines the core convictions that govern our preaching, worship, sacraments, leadership, and life together.

We affirm it as a faithful summary of the teaching of Holy Scripture, which alone is our supreme authority. This confession binds the church to speak truthfully about God, Christ, salvation, and the hope of the world, while recognizing that Scripture itself employs a richness of language and imagery that cannot be reduced to a single explanatory system.

Within the boundaries set by this confession, we allow for careful theological reflection and charitable disagreement on secondary matters, provided that such teaching remains faithful to the gospel we confess and does not contradict the doctrinal grammar established here.

Holy Scripture

We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, given to reveal who God is, what He has done, and how He calls His people to live.

Scripture is the final authority for the church in matters of faith, doctrine, worship, and life. It is sufficient to make us wise for salvation and to equip us for faithful obedience.

The Bible tells the true story of the world—from creation, through Israel, to Jesus Christ, and toward the renewal of all things. It is to be read in the light of Christ and by the illumination of the Holy Spirit, who speaks through it to form and correct the people of God.

The Triune God

We believe in one God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—eternal, undivided, and equal in glory.

The Father is the source of all that is, the Creator and Sustainer of heaven and earth.

The Son is the eternal Word made flesh, truly God and truly human, through whom all things were made and through whom God has acted to redeem the world.

The Holy Spirit is the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, bringing creation to its fulfillment and uniting believers to Christ.

In all the works of God—creation, redemption, and renewal—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit act in perfect unity, revealing a God who is faithful, righteous, and love.

Creation and Humanity

We believe that God created all things out of nothing by His Word and declared His creation good. Humanity was created in the image of God to live in communion with Him, to reflect His character, and to share in His life and rule over creation.

Human life is therefore sacred and purposeful, ordered toward loving God and loving one another within the world God has made.

Sin and Death

We believe that through human rebellion against God, sin entered the world, bringing corruption, injustice, and death. Sin is not merely individual wrongdoing but a power that distorts human life, fractures relationships, and subjects creation to decay.

As a result, humanity stands in need of God’s mercy and cannot restore itself to God apart from divine grace. Left to ourselves, we are unable to overcome sin or escape death.

God’s Saving Purpose in Christ

We believe that God, in His mercy, purposed from the beginning to redeem the world through Jesus Christ.

In Christ, God calls and forms a people for Himself, uniting Jews and Gentiles into one family by grace. God’s saving purpose is accomplished not through human merit, ethnic privilege, or works of the law, but through His covenant faithfulness fulfilled in Christ.

Salvation is God’s gracious gift, received through faith, by which sinners are reconciled to God and brought into new life.

The Cross and Resurrection of Christ

We believe that in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has decisively dealt with sin and death.

On the cross, Christ bore the judgment of sin, exhausted its power, and reconciled the world to God. This was not an act of division within God, but the self-giving love of the Triune God for a broken world.

In raising Jesus from the dead, God vindicated His Son, inaugurated the new creation, and opened the way for forgiveness, restoration, and eternal life. The resurrection is the victory of God over death and the pledge of the renewal of all things.

The Holy Spirit and New Life

We believe that the Holy Spirit applies the saving work of Christ, bringing sinners to repentance and faith, uniting them to Christ, and granting them new life.

The Spirit indwells believers, conforming them to the image of Christ, producing the fruit of holiness, and empowering them to live in obedience, love, and hope. Sanctification is both God’s gracious work and the calling of believers to walk faithfully in the new life they have received.

The People of God

We believe that the church is the people of God, the body of Christ, and the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.

The church is called to worship God, proclaim the gospel, make disciples, practice justice and mercy, and embody the reconciling life of God’s kingdom in the world. Christ alone is the head of the church, who governs and sustains His people by His Word and Spirit.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We believe that Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are gifts of grace given by Christ to His church as visible signs of His saving work and covenant faithfulness.

In Baptism, God marks His people with His covenant promises, signifying union with Christ, forgiveness of sins, and entrance into the visible community of faith. Baptism is to be administered to those who profess faith in Christ and to their children, for the promise of the gospel belongs to believers and to their households.

Baptism does not itself regenerate or guarantee saving faith. Rather, it is a sign and seal of God’s gracious promise, calling each baptized person to personal repentance, living faith, and lifelong obedience to Jesus Christ.

In the Lord’s Supper, Christ nourishes His people through faith, proclaiming His once-for-all sacrifice and strengthening our communion with Him and with one another. As we partake in faith, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

These sacraments are means of grace, by which the Holy Spirit confirms God’s promises, deepens our faith, and forms us as a covenant people under the Lordship of Christ.

The Hope of the World

We believe that Jesus Christ will return in glory to judge the living and the dead and to bring God’s purposes to completion.

God will raise the dead, put an end to evil, and renew creation. In the new heavens and the new earth, God will dwell with His redeemed people forever, and righteousness, peace, and joy will fill all things.

This hope calls the church to faithfulness, holiness, and patient endurance as we await the fulfillment of God’s promises.

Our Hope

In all these things, we confess that Jesus Christ is the center of our faith, the Lord of the church, and the hope of the world.

To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.

Amen.
